Bathing the baby

 Baby's first bath It can be a little daunting, especially if you're a new mom and you've never bathed a newborn before.  But don't worry, you'll be fine.  Mothers have been bathing babies since the beginning of time.  Today is safer with all the new types of bathtubs that are just for babies and toddlers.  And many children love to bathe'

  A newborn baby should be sponge bathed for the first few weeks.  Since your baby doesn't need to be bathed every day, you can sponge bath him twice a week or as often as needed.  It's important to go ahead and gather everything you need before you begin.  And here are the supplies you'll need to bathe your newborn:

  * 1. A thick towel or sponge bath pad

  * 2. Soft was

hcloth

  * 4. Cotton balls.

  * 5. Baby shampoo and baby soap

  * 6. Baby towel with hood

  * 7. Clean diapers and clothes.

  Make sure the room you are using is warm Place a non-slip pad or towel under the seat/basket to prevent your baby from slipping (toddlers are very slippery).  Run lukewarm water in the sink/tub.  Gently undress your child and talk in a calm voice and explain what you are doing.  Place the baby slowly in the water.

  Start with a little baby soap on your face.  Next, wash your head and continue downwards.  When bathing your baby, be sure to thoroughly clean the following areas: neck, ears, buttocks and groin area.  Try not to wet the umbilical cord area.  Gently wipe with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.  And if your son is circumcised, try not to push back the foreskin when cleaning the back.  Once your front is clean, then finish the back.

  Dry the baby thoroughly and then dress him.  Make sure the head is completely dry.  It may take a while the first time because they will twist and are very slippery.  But never take your hands off the child.  Once you both get used to this routine, it will become much easier.
