 It's a mistake to limit your resume to your past history, personal statement, or self-expression.  Certainly, a large part of the content of any resume is focused on your work history.  But write with the intention of generating interest, of persuading the employer to call you.  If you write with this goal in mind, your final product will be very different than if you write to inform the history of your work.
